Free IT Athens
The Economic Justice Coalition is proud to work closely with Free IT Athens, a group of citizens who realize that computers are a necessary component of everyday life. Free IT Athens' goal is to provide access to information technology resources to Athens-Clarke County residents and organizations, while creating well informed advocates for free software and open information technology.
Free IT Athens was founded in Fall 2005 by Tarsem S. Purewal Jr., Michael Moore and Michael Luchtan. Since its inception, Free IT Athens has provided over 1,000 computers to individuals, nearly 200 computers to over two dozen community groups, and has recycled many tons of unusable equipment. In the first 8 months of 2010, more than 135 volunteers contributed over 2300 hours of community service.
