Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.
Financial Report- There is 5,752.96 on hand at the present.
ESL- Carrie is the new coordinator. Her hours are Thursday 5-7 and Saturday AM.
Started teaching basic English based on work. Ordering materials. She and Drew are
planning to attending some workshops. Kate Smite will be going Tuesday and Thursday
5-7. Drew will be there Monday and Wednesday 5-7. There will be 3 or 4 students.
Talked about ways to introduce yourself and some vocabulary words to take home and
study. Drew thinks consistency and trust are very important. Carrie is still looking for
volunteers so they can meet the needs of different levels.
Civic Engagement- Linda said Saturday will be at Festival in Iron triangle to register
voters. Oct. 4th is last day to register voters. Will be going to work at Athens Tech and
aiming for 100% participation to registar voters and voter engagement. Will sponsor
a cookout at Bethel Homes on Nov.2 to get people’s attention for voting. Discussed
having a funeral for Mr& Mrs. NO Voters. Carrie is helping registering 18 year olds
born here.
Worker’s Rights- Ron needs to teach Hispanic workers basic words for safety- up, down,
in, out, off, on, etc.
Unity- Life skills change to social skills civic involvement. The computer lab hours
will also be expanding. The lab will be open Monday and Friday 10:00 to 1:00 3:30
to 7:00. Taking Brad on Wednesday to Bethal Homes to met participants. Ladies at
Bethal Homes upset because no computer classes were held the last 3 Saturdays. Greg
had cancelled classes. Ovita will have 6 weeks of computer classes and is going to have
Greg to come and talk about the program. There will be individualized training for ladies
who can not make it to Saturday classes.
University Living Wage- There will be a meeting every Wednesday at 5:30 at the Arch.
On October 7th there will be a major event which includes a big rally in front of the
administration building behind the Arch. It is about protecting workers from losing jobs.
On October 5th or 6th there will be a film that needs to be spread to the different churches
in the area it will be at Mount Pleasant Church.
Fundraising- Emily still is working on grant from Ben & Jerry’s. Put in for 12,000 for
the living wage campaign.
Put in for capacity building grant. December 9th or 10th Party Benefits Concert.

Ron-find some space for more volunteers, Brad-will help people who volunteer to do
computers.
-Giving $600.00 to anyone who is unemployed (labor department), Proper dress code for
male volunteers
-Joseph will talk to his Dad about satellite program
Web Design- Website needs to be improved, need worker-friendly icons on page. Brad
agrees to work on it for $250
